Where I Come From...

I was born and raised in Houston, Texas, and I'm dang proud of that fact.

Okay, if we want to get technical, I born in Houston, and raised in the suburbs, but the fact remains that I am a city girl at heart and a Texan born and bred...

I was raised by two wonderful, divorced parents who have given me everything and sacrificed a lot so that I could have an amazing life. My dad taught me how to be silly, how to laugh and not take life too seriously. My mom taught me how to be strong and independent, and to not take crap from anyone. Together, they taught me that reading is fun, movies are great, music is amazing, food is awesome when prepared with love, and that family is important.

I was involved in many different activities growing up. Dance, gymnastics, soccer, piano lessons, school plays, orchestra, JROTC, and student council were all activities I was once a part of, even through college. Being a part of these different activities taught me what it was like to be a part of a team, to work towards a common goal, to be comfortable in front of an audience, how important it is to remain active, and it showed me the beauty of the arts.
To this day, I still enjoy dancing (though not formally), I still play soccer, I took piano for credit, I still play my viola, and I'm a part of the student government at my college.

My parents gave me life, roots, siblings, and lessons that I could not have learned from anyone else. They taught me self-respect and to respect others. They gave me everything, and they took things away when they had to. They took me to church, where I learned about God and fell in love with Jesus Christ.

Houston gave me an undying love for the city, for skyscrapers, loud noises, homeless people, and adventure.

My activities gave me balance, fun, and self-expression. Participating in them gave me a love for making music, the ability to work with others, and a talent for being in front of large groups of people.

All of these things are what make up who I am today, and I am so thankful and blessed by where and who I come from. ..
